The basic concept of punch needle or needlepunch is pretty simple, yarn is punched through a tightly woven fabric from the back with a hollow pencil shaped needle and leaves tufted loops of yarn on top of the fabric. The tufts can be left as is or trimmed to add a velvety look. It is very easy to create your own patterns from pictures, coloring book pages or purchased iron on transfers. I have even used stained glass patterns!!
